BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections can relax your wrinkles.

The regular facial expressions we make when happy and sad cause lines in our faces that may be undesirable. Furrowed brows, crow's feet and frown lines are visible examples of our emotions that can affect our appearance.

A unique concept, Botox® Cosmetic presents a natural, non-surgical way to treat facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, or Botox® Cosmetic, works by weakening the muscles of facial expression that cause wrinkles. As the muscles relax, the skin flattens out and wrinkles fade away.

Although silicon, collagen, and autologous fat injections have been around for some time, they work by filling in a wrinkle with an added substance. Botox works in a very different way - by physiologically weakening the muscles, which in turn reduces the wrinkles caused by those muscles.

However, Botox® Cosmetic does not take the place of standard plastic surgical procedures such as facelift, eyelid lifts and laser skin resurfacing. Botox has the ability to temporarily improve areas that may not be addressed by these operations.

Botox® Cosmetic is particularly effective in treating lines and wrinkles caused by muscular facial expressions in the upper third of the face. Wrinkles caused by sun damage are less likely to respond to Botox.

The treatment is extremely effective, although it is not permanent. When the toxin starts to wear off after several months, wrinkles may return. However, upon return the wrinkles are frequently not as deep. At that time, patients may elect to repeat the treatment. Two to four injections per year may be necessary to maintain the desired improvement in one's appearance.

The Botox® Cosmetic works best in patients aged 30 to 60. Patients in older age categories often have wrinkles caused by sun damage in addition to lax skin, and therefore do not experience the same level of success with this treatment.
