What to expect from your injectable appointment & how to prepare
What to Expect:
- Your appointment will last approx. 30 minutes for Botox/Dysport and up to 1 hour for dermal filler.
- Temporary redness and swelling at the injection site is common and usually goes away within the hour for Botox/Dysport and several hours for dermal filler.
- You will see immediate results with filler and results within 5 days (full onset 2 weeks) with Botox/Dysport.
- Topical numbing cream may be applied for some dermal filler injections
- In most cases, for Botox/Dysport tinted SPF can be applied post treatment.
How to Prepare:
Please avoid the following prior to your injectable appointment:
- Avoid blood thinning agents (NSAIDS, aspirin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil and other blood thinners) for at least 48 hrs prior to your appointment.
*Patients must get approval to be off blood thinners from their PCP. - Avoid alcohol for 2 days prior.
- No dental appointments or vaccinations for 2 weeks prior to filler.
- Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores for after injections. Antiviral medications may be prescribed. Not applicable for Botox/Dysport injections.
Please note: We are unable to treat you for injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
After your Appointment:
- No exercise or alcohol for 24 hrs.
- You may take Tylenol or OTC antihistamines for soreness and swelling as needed.
- Arnica may be used for bruising and it is available for purchase in our office.
- Ice as needed (15 min at a time).
- Avoid saunas for 48 hours.
- Avoid deep facial massage for 1 month after dermal filler and 24 hours for Botox/Dysport.
- Avoid aggressive rubbing of the injected area.
- Do not apply makeup for 12 hrs after injections with dermal fillers.
- Avoid scheduling dental or vaccine appointments for 2 weeks.
- Avoid wearing a hat for the first 12 hours.
- Please let your provider know immediately if you have any pain out of proportion, dusky or white discoloration, unusual bruising, severe swelling, itching, or blisters. If you are unable to reach your provider please call our office at (615) 206-2937.
