LOOK GREAT AT ANY AGE

Breast Lift in Nashville, TN

Over time, many women notice that their breasts have begun to droop. The breast skin and tissue lose elasticity, and the breasts themselves lose shape and become elongated and saggy. This can be the result of pregnancy, weight loss, or simply part of aging. A breast lift at our Nashville Cosmetic Surgery can lift and reshape the breasts for a younger, natural look.

Breast Lift Procedure

Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and sculpts the breasts and elevates the nipple position. The breast tissue is repositioned and the breast skin tightened to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes, mesh or acellular dermal matrix material is used to support the breast to reduce the recurrent sagging over time.  If the areolas are enlarged, Dr. Griffin can reduce their size a breast lift. Incision patterns vary depending on the degree of excess skin and amount of lifting required as well as patient and surgeon preference.

Breast lifts can be performed with or without breast implants. If you have adequate breast tissue and are happy with your breast size, a mastopexy is all that you need. If larger breasts are desired, then a breast augmentation combined with a breast lift in the same surgery. Conversely, if the breasts are too large and heavy in addition to being saggy, then breast reduction may be recommended.

Dr. Griffin will meet with you for an initial consultation to talk about your goals and determine if breast lift surgery is the best option for your needs.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Breast lift surgery typically takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, although more time will be needed if you are having multiple procedures at the same time. Most patients are fully recovered within a matter of weeks, and can generally ease back into normal activities within a few days of their procedure. It will take 2 to 3 months before the breasts reach their final shape. Incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your primary concern is sagging or the position of your nipples rather than size, a lift is likely the appropriate procedure. A simple test: if your nipple falls at or below the inframammary fold (the crease beneath the breast), you likely have ptosis that augmentation alone cannot correct. Dr. Griffin evaluates each patient individually and will recommend the approach best suited to your anatomy and goals during your consultation at Nashville Cosmetic Surgery.

The technique Dr. Griffin uses depends on the degree of sagging. A crescent lift is minimal and reserved for very mild ptosis. A periareolar (donut) lift is appropriate for mild cases. A vertical (lollipop) lift addresses moderate sagging and produces an incision around the areola and straight down. A full anchor lift is used for significant ptosis and adds a horizontal incision in the crease. Dr. Griffin will recommend the least invasive technique that achieves your desired result.

All breast lift techniques involve some scarring, as incisions are necessary to remove excess skin and reshape the tissue. However, scars are placed in locations that are hidden by bras and swimwear, and they fade significantly over 12–18 months. Dr. Griffin uses advanced closure techniques to minimize scarring, and The Skin Lounge offers scar treatment options to optimize your healing.

Yes. A lift with augmentation is one of the most commonly requested combination procedures, particularly for patients who have experienced volume loss after pregnancy or weight changes. Performing both in a single surgery means one recovery period. Dr. Griffin will assess your tissue quality and the degree of sagging to determine whether combining procedures is the safest and most effective approach.

Most patients return to non-physical work within one week and resume normal activities within 3–4 weeks. You will wear a surgical bra for the first few weeks, and heavy lifting and strenuous exercise are restricted for 4–6 weeks. Swelling and some asymmetry in early healing are normal and resolve over several weeks as the breasts settle into their new position.

A breast lift produces long-lasting results, but they are not permanent. Future pregnancy, significant weight changes, and the natural effects of aging and gravity will gradually affect results over time. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing supportive bras helps preserve your results.

Some breast lift techniques, particularly those involving periareolar incisions, may affect milk duct integrity and breastfeeding ability. If you plan to breastfeed in the future, it is important to discuss this with Dr. Griffin before surgery so he can take this into account in his surgical planning and technique selection.

Yes. Breast lift surgery at Nashville Cosmetic Surgery is performed under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The procedure typically takes 2–3 hours depending on the technique used and whether additional procedures are being performed simultaneously.
