Laser season is here, and here’s what you need to Laser season is here, and here’s what you need to know before you book. 🔆⁠ ⁠ These are some of our favorite treatments to do now because they help clear sun damage, even tone, and improve texture, so by summer, you feel confident going lighter on makeup, or even makeup-free.⁠ ⁠ A lot of patients are excited about HALO BBL, but hesitant about downtime. The truth is, it is very manageable. The first 48 to 72 hours are typically the peak for swelling. Some patients swell very little. Others wake up a bit puffy. It passes quickly.⁠ ⁠ With HALO BBL, you will notice a sandpaper texture and tiny dark spots on the skin. That is pigment and sun damage rising to the surface. Around days 5 to 7, it begins to shed, and that is when you start to see the clarity and brightness come through.⁠ ⁠ If we are treating with BBL alone for hyperpigmentation, downtime is typically lighter. Mild swelling around the eyes can still happen, especially if we are targeting vascularity or sun damage there, and that is completely normal.⁠ ⁠ If you have been considering it, this is the season to do it. That may include treatments like facials or gentle peels, plus an at-home plan with products like retinol or Retin-A to help improve skin turnover and overall skin quality.⁠ ⁠ After surgery, the focus shifts to protecting what was done.⁠ That means keeping dressings in place, following instructions closely, and not overdoing it while your body heals. For procedures like a tummy tuck or breast lift, incisions need time. Too much activity too soon can stretch healing skin and impact the outcome.⁠ ⁠ We also guide patients through scar care with a clear protocol. We typically start with silk tape for a few weeks, then transition into silicone scar gel. Many scars heal beautifully with consistent early care. I’m a plastic surgeon, and these are 5 hard truths I’m a plastic surgeon, and these are 5 hard truths I tell my patients:⁠ ⁠ Surgery won’t fix body image issues. ⁠ ⁠ • I can change your body, but I can’t change your self-worth. There are reasons you want to have surgery, sometimes those reasons are deeper than you realize. If you’re unhappy with yourself before surgery, you’ll likely struggle after. Understanding the emotional reasons behind wanting surgery matters. Realistic expectations for what surgery will and will not fix are an important part of preparation.⁠ ⁠ Recovery is harder than you think. ⁠ ⁠ • Most patients underestimate the physical and emotional toll of recovering from cosmetic surgery. You’ll need help with basic tasks, time off work, and patience as swelling subsides. Real healing takes time and commitment.⁠ ⁠ Natural results require realistic sizing choices.⁠ ⁠ • If you want natural-looking breast implants, you have to consider all the factors that will affect your end result. Your frame, your existing tissue, and your proportions determine what size and profile implant will look natural and will look good long-term; you can’t just use a bigger implant. And sometimes that might mean having a lift. Trust your surgeon’s recommendations.⁠ ⁠ Cheap surgery costs more in the long run. ⁠ ⁠ • A safe accredited OR, qualified anesthesia professionals, and an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon with consistent and beautiful results is more expensive. But fixing botched work costs 3x more than doing it right the first time.⁠ ⁠ Not everyone is a good candidate. ⁠ ⁠ • Sometimes the answer is no. If your expectations are unrealistic, your health isn’t stable, or risks outweigh benefits, an ethical surgeon will decline.
